If you haven’t heard of Feng Shui before then this little nugget might be of use to you.
Feng Shui is an Eastern belief system which deals with the flow of energy (chi) within a space. In your home or work area, if you have a lot of items/stuff in the room, energy isn’t able to freely move around, so things tend to get stagnated.
You may also find that your energy dips or you feel drained after spending time in those rooms.
The art of decluttering doesn’t just work by physically making a room look more aesthetically pleasing, but it also works on your mental, emotional and spiritual bodies. This in turn can have amazing affects in your physical reality.
If a ‘cluttered mind’ has ever prevented you from working on a project then maybe you should have a look at what you are holding on to.
Don’t burn yourself out whilst decluttering. You don't have to do the whole house in a day! Getting rid of things that you have held onto for a long time can sometimes feel traumatic. Regardless of whether it's a physical object or energetic, such as an emotion. Take your time. It is better to either go room by room or even just one area of a room at a time than to try blasting through everything.
Set a side an hour. 30mins to sort through and 30mins to tidy up. Small yet manageable.
We've all been there. We've finished sorting out one area of a room, feeling really proud of ourselves, only to turn round and see a pile or mountain of stuff yet to be sorted. Be kind to yourself!
An easy way to determine whether you want to release something is to ask yourself the following questions:
|
If the answer to the majority of these is no, then allow yourself to let the item go. With love. If it’s in good condition you could always sell it or donate it to charity.
Clothing is like the holy grail when it comes to decluttering! If you are someone who has a wardrobe full of clothes of varying sizes, subconsciously you could be beating yourself up. How many times do you look at them and think they don't fit you? Every time you say they don't fit you, your body listens and you could sabotage your attempts to get into shape to wear them again.
Alternatively, if you have lost weight and you are holding on to items which are now too big ‘just in case’ you may need them again, you are guaranteed to need them again. Try to replace items as you drop sizes or get them taken in as soon as possible. If you allow your body to feel great with clothes that fit you right now you will feel far more confident and happy with yourself.
Don’t forget to declutter your makeup. We all love a little bit of makeup and have our favourites. If you are someone who struggles to part with any please remember they have a use by date. Your skin needs to feel great too, so if you're holding on to makeup that is old - it’s simply not going to be good for you. Also, if you don’t have time to deep clean your makeup brushes, it would be best to bin them and buy new ones. Old make up residue can be a breeding ground for bacteria, so if you are having a bit of a breakout after after wearing makeup, you might |
